I Want To Run Away
03:52
|
|||
I wrap myself in the blanket of your memory
I wear it around like a coat from the cold
I dream of happiness and all the stories
For a minute there, we were comin’ up so close, so close
The photographs do no justice to the memory
For I can’t feel your breath upon my lips
I wrap my mind oh so carefully
Around the taste of your sweet kiss
About a thousand times a day
I hear somebody say, I want to run away
I want to run away
To a better feelin’ day
Where everything’s OK
And you never went away
I can’t stay here today
Eyes on fire it was love at first sight
Waves crashed down the night we finally got it right
I still don’t know if was better to have known
Or to keep on wonderin’ what it must be like
Every day I find another stolen moment
Where I bask in the glow of what it was
I wrap myself in the magic of your beauty
And to know what it was to finally be in love, in love
[Chorus]

I have no words to explain
I’m out of touch I’m out of pain
I don’t care I can’t contain
Tears of joy fall down just like rain
There ain’t no words for a masterpiece
Your face your hair your tiny little feet
I climbed a cliff I took a leap
Picasso paints Chavela sleeps
Este amour apasionado
Ya no puedo cantar solo toco
la guitarra
porque no tengo palabras
no no no no no no no no tengo palabras
no no no no no no no no tengo palabras
solo toco
la guitarra
I have no words to describe
What I see behind your big brown eyes
I love this fire I feel inside
I fell for you just like a child
[Chorus]
Translation:
This impassioned love
I can no longer sing
I only play my guitar
Because I have no words
No no no no no no no no I have no words
No no no no no no no no I have no words
I only play
My guitar

Lights Of Marfa
05:08
|
|||
When death came down on Austin
Nobody said a word
A fright came over Texas
Had the law lost it’s nerve
Where was Nellie Johnson
Her brothers and her son
She’d seen this before
Way back in ’51
Did she follow the lights of Marfa
Straight up into the sky
Or did she ride down to Terlingua
And cross the Rio Grande
Did she make the choice to run away
Or make her final stand
On the other side of the Rio Grande
A freight train is comin’
It’s blowin’ down the tracks
It’s headed for Las Cruces
And there ain’t no turnin’ back
Here comes Sheriff Walker
He ain’t nobody’s friend
Unless you pay protection
Or own half of the Big Bend
When money makes the truth a lie
It can break an honest man
When justice hits the dead of night
One does what they can
[Chorus]
The old man named Rudolph
He owned everything around
There ain’t no way in hell
They’re gonna take his son down
Well she snuck up on ol Rudy
She put a bullet in his head
She said you dirty rotten louse
That one’s for my dad
Armed robbery ain’t murder
But Nellie knew the score
If she didn’t bust a move
She’d be buryin’ four more
[Chorus]

Lost In Time
04:51
|
|||
In a pawnshop outside of Montebello
I found an abandoned old cello
There’s no case and the old bow is busted
Only two strings they’re both well rusted
Took me back to a lovely spring day
Michigan, the month of May
She said “come back”, but I walked away
Ten years gone and I miss her today
One minute lost, lost in time
What did we lose, what did we find
The moment’s gone, in seconds flat
You can look, but you can’t go back
Feels like a crime, when you miss the sign
Lost in time, Lost in time
She played with a fine vibrato
Eyes of almond and avocado
Her long black hair it hung down low
She plucked notes, in perfect staccato
One day I’m gonna fix up this old thing
Finish the wood, replace those rusty strings
New horsehair on the bow
Why did I let her go?
Ch
On a lonely warm spring day
California, the month of May
I got down on my knees and I prayed
That someday I’d hear her play
This old abandoned cello
From a pawnshop outside of Montebello
There’s no case and the old bow is busted
Only two strings and they’re both well rusted
Ch

Lincoln Penny
05:49
|
|||
I see that penny shinin’
On the ground beneath my feet
I see my grandad’s face
I hear the land of Lincoln speak…
Down in Morgan county; Franklin, Jacksonville
My roots, prairie farmers; Howsers, Oxleys and Scholfields
Grandad took me to that land when I was just a kid
The sun was blazin’ hot down there the air as thick as sin
We stayed at the old farmhouse with Uncle Mac and Aunt Bernadine
I realized years later “American Gothic” I had seen
He took me to an old log cabin he told me what the legend did
He said Abraham Lincoln was the greatest man that ever lived
I see that penny shinin’
On the ground beneath my feet
I see my grandad’s face
I hear the land of Lincoln speak
I pick up that old coin
I stuff it in my jeans
I hold it in my pocket
No one knows what it’s worth to me
We drove to the big river the mighty, muddy Miss
In that giant golden Buick listenin’ to that old 8-track hiss
We went inside a shop filled with artifacts
I saw a lock of hair with some books in a case of glass
The hair was all wrapped up in square clear cellophane
I asked who’s Sam Clemens? He said son that’s Mark Twain
Ch
As we drove back north to Bloomington past the rows and rows of corn
He said, boy don’t forget where the rest of us were born
He took me to an old log cabin, he told me what the legend did
He said Abraham Lincoln was the greatest man that ever lived
I pick up that old coin
I stuff it in my jeans
I hold it in my pocket
No one knows what it’s worth to me

Eye Of A Thief
03:02
|
|||
There was a man in the mountains
Who bled out the Russians
We provided the weapons
Because we were friends then
Then he turned against us
He sent planes to kill us
Waging a war of deceit
Choosing allies
With the eye of a thief
We had a leader who said
He’s got god in his head
And our proud constitution
Is laying in ruins
All these insurgents
Are a minor disturbance
Never admit defeat
With a swagger and a smirk
And the eye of a thief
There’s a cardinal in the cathedral
Who preaches against evil
But the justice in his kingdom
Is relocate to freedom
The priests in his sacristy
Use children immaculately
New virgin flesh to feast
Ye
With the eye of a thief
The slick corporations
And lobby formations
Have hijacked our congress
Our freedom’s in regress
The phonies and cronies
They never leave
They take no punches they just bob and they weave
Ropeadope
With the eye of a thief
We used to build everything
Soon we’ll make nothing
It’s the new sensation
To outsource the nation
Our representation’s
Transparent truth
Is they don’t serve me and they don’t serve you
Servin’ somebody
With the eye of a thief

I used to think you loved me
I used to think you cared
I tried to tell you no babe
Some deals they just ain’t fair
You can try to work it out
You can try day after day
You can cry out loud when the love dies
But love’s a shame in vain
Well there’s dreams and there’s lovers and dreams fade away
Lover’s they promise forever they’ll stay
When you add it all up at the end of the day
It’s a crapshoot at best, I don’t care what you say
I don’t care what you say
Another day another dollar
Another deal gone down
Much to my misfortune
You smiled and stuck around
The farther out, the further back
It’s a shallow sea, but the sand is deep
It’s better there than over here
I don’t know how you sleep
Ch
I used to drive a Chevy
I drove it all around
Dollar gas at the railroad tracks
We got lost, not to be found
Yeah, it’s true I loved you
Yeah, it’s true I cared
I wish things would last forever
But I’m a thousand miles from there

Whiskey, Cryin', Pain...
04:33
|
|||
Here’s to the ladies you love
But you’ll never see again
Last night seemed kind of special
This morning you realize how long it’s been
Don’t fight the lonely feeling
Trying to get what you can
We’re only flesh and blood and sometimes
Old bones just need a friend
So take all those promises and lies
We all say that ain’t right
But don’t beat yourself up
Sometimes you’re just too tired to fight
Be it whiskey, cryin’, pain, runnin’ or spite
I’m for whatever gets you through the night
Pull up those ol bootstraps put on your
Brave face for a new day
Face all those faces and memories
You’re not willin’ to trade
Don’t take it so hard at least
You’re still willin’ to play
Ain’t it funny how the right little smile
Can make you feel ok
Be it whiskey, cryin’, pain, runnin’ or spite
I’m for whatever gets you through the night (2X)
Here’s to the ladies you love
But you’ll never see again
We’re only flesh and blood and sometimes
Old bones just need a friend

Million Miles
04:50
|
|||
Another day a year gone by
I’m not scared and I wonder why
I sit here alone night after night
I still think I’ll end up right
A million miles keeps us apart
A million miles and a thousand stars
A million miles keeps us apart
Do you keep the old folks close in kind?
Do you ever dream they can see through time?
Have you ever looked and tried to find
those things that are true inside your mind?
A million miles keeps us apart from a sweet little smile and a brand new start
Tired ‘a playin’ Mr. Lonesome, of bein’ third wheel;
these honky tonks and pool halls, they ain’t no great deal
I lost faith somewhere, I don’t know when; right now I just want it back again
Do you find it silly how so many hid
From the dreams they had when they were kids?
Do you find success in the almighty buck
or in a stud palomino and a pick up truck?
Do you ever look at your old friends and wonder where they all went?
Have you ever looked up into the sky and screamed out loud; “Please god why?”
C’mon baby let’s bust a move; tell me honey, do you still groove?
And a million miles keeps us apart
A million miles and a billion stars
